Liberty Church of Christ is committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) from Schedule 1 of the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012, which amends the Privacy Act 1988.

This policy sets out how we will collect, use, store, disclose and de-identify your personal information.

WHAT WE COLLECT:

Liberty Church of Christ endeavours only to collect personally identifiable information about individuals when said individuals specifically provide such information on a voluntary basis. We endeavour to only collect information that is reasonably necessary for the activities you are seeking to be involved in.

The types of personally identifiable information we collect from you or from others about you may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • contact details (name, address, telephone numbers, email, etc.);
  • personal details (birthdate, marital status, gender, etc.);
  • family details (spouse, children, etc.);
  • education qualifications and occupation information (profession, job title, etc.).

At times it may be appropriate that we collect sensitive information about you, including:

  • health information;
  • religious information (attendance, spiritual milestones etc.);
  • professional and practice information;
  • criminal record and/or Working With Children Check; and
  • credit card details.

WHY WE COLLECT INFORMATION:

We collect private information to allow us to effectively and appropriately communicate with people, link them with our activities and programs, promote the Gospel to them, and provide other Christian services to them.

HOW WE COLLECT INFORMATION:

We collect information directly from you, unless it is unreasonable or impractical to do so. Where we collect information from third parties and it is not personal information that is contained in a Commonwealth record, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify the information as required by law.

We collect personal information about supporters, donors, volunteers, employees, contractors and visitors to our events. We collect your information in the following ways:

  • personal contact;
  • via our website;
  • via social media messages or conversation;
  • voice or image recordings;
  • whilst delivering and administering services at our facilities or other facilities;
  • through forms and other correspondence (both in writing and electronically).

WHO HAS ACCESS:

Access to any data containing personal information is restricted to Liberty Church of Christ staff members and the senior leadership (i.e. pastors, elders and administrative personnel) with direct responsibility for service or management of the website and/or pastoral care or events. Authorised staff members will not pass on information to non-authorised staff.

DISCLOSING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION:

We only use your personal and sensitive information for the purposes for which it was collected, or as otherwise permitted by law. We will not disclose your personal and sensitive information to affiliates or third parties without your consent, unless required by law. We don’t rent, sell or exchange your information.

ACCESSING, UPDATING AND CHANGING YOUR INFORMATION:

Upon request, we will allow any user to “opt out” of further promotional contacts at any time. Additionally upon request, we will use reasonable efforts to allow users to update, correct or delete personal information previously submitted which the user states is erroneous, to the extent such activities will not compromise privacy or security interests.

SECURITY AND HOLDING OF YOUR INFORMATION:

We take all reasonable steps to protect the personal and sensitive information we hold from interference, misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Our I.T. systems are password protected and comply with applicable security standards. Where we use offsite storage (including the ‘cloud’), we take all reasonable steps to ensure that the providers we use have privacy policies in place that comply with Australian privacy regulations and principles.

ANONYMITY:

Where practicable and lawful, we will endeavour to provide you with the option of interacting anonymously. However we note that in some circumstances this may prevent us from practically and effectively communicating with you.

THIRD PARTY WEBSITES:

Our website may contain links to third party websites, and third party websites may also have links to our website. Our privacy policy does not apply to external links or other websites. The operators of other websites may collect your personal information. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any website you link to from our website.

COOKIES:

When you visit our website a record of your visit is logged. The following data is supplied by your browser:

  • The date, time and length of your visit to the website;
  • Your IP address and/or domain name;
  • Your operating system (type of browser and platform); and
  • The pages and resources you accessed and the documents you downloaded.

Cookies are only used to store temporary information about your current visit, and all data stored in them is encrypted.

CHANGES TO THE LIBERTY CHURCH OF CHRIST PRIVACY POLICY:

Liberty Church of Christ may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to comply with changes to the Privacy Act. When we make significant changes, we will notify our members of such changes.
